Emergency: Military Wants 3 Govs Suspended

The Security Council Meeting scheduled for Wednesday would consider suspending the governors of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states, with a view to imposing total emergency rule. This would entail the suspension of all democratic structures in the affected states, should the idea sail through. Officially, the emergency rule ended at the weekend, but the military authorities have asked President Goodluck Jonathan to extend it, since the war against the insurgency is far from over. According to a top ranking officer in the military, the security chiefs had indicted some top politicians and elite in the Northeast, for sabotaging the ongoing operations against the insurgents and wanted the governors and Houses of Assembly in the affected states suspended while the operations lasted. “The politicians and elite, including the governors in those states, are working against our programme; their unguarded utterances are daring the insurgents. They seem to have known the agenda of

Insecurity: FG Has Failed – JIBWIS Nat. Chairman Shaikh Bala Lau

The National Chairman of Jamaatul Izalatil Bidia Waikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheik Abdullahi Bala Lau, yesterday, decried federal government’s failure in confronting insecurity even as he urged muslims to engaged in prayers. Addressing journalists on Sunday, Lau said “we are in a bad era of leadership in the country and only prayers can solve the problem since the Government has failed most especially in handling security.” Sheikh Lau decried the total deterioration of security particularly in the Northern part of the country and insisted that the only way out was for Muslims in the country to engage in serious prayers and fasting to rescue the country from collapse. He said the “sit and look” attitude of the federal government towards the recent kidnap of over 100 female students in Chibok town of Borno state was an indication of failed government. The JIBWIS chairman said most of the killings in the Northern part of the country were an agenda to destroy entire Mus

In search of credible leaders for Gombe State

There has been a desperate horse trading involving Governor Danjuma Goje to anoint a successor. Everyone knows that Goje’s decision to anoint a successor is not based on the competence of the person to lead the people of Gombe but for his continued protection and soft landing after leaving office. I read several newspapers in recent times with different analysis of those likely to succeed Gov. Goje in 2011. Some of these names that are repeatedly mentioned are: Usman Bayero, Ibrahim Dankwambo, Tawar Wada, Inuwa Yahaya, Dasuki Jalo-Waziri, Arabs Rukuje, Ahmed Walama, Abdullahi Idris, Habu Mu’azu and Faruk Bamusa. Of all these names only Habu Mu’azu is said to be the one that can face Goje anyday, anytime and anywhere. None of the others has shown seriousness apart from Mu’azu because they are all waiting for Gov. Goje to say be before they act. Some of those waiting to contest for the elections are oiling their machinery well in advance. I will attempt an analysis on so
