Atiku writes Adamawa PDP for waiver...Why we registered him -Ward Chairman

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar

The former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential aspirant, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has written the Adamawa State’s chapter of the party, seeking for a waiver, the spokesperson of the former vice president, Malam Garba Shehu, told Sunday Trust last night.

Atiku, according to his spokesperson, has written the party leadership in his home state of Adamawa and copied the party’s national headquarters. Alhaji Musa A. Yahaya, who is the PDP Chairman of Jada II Ward, Atiku’s ward in Jada local government told Sunday Trust that Atiku had been re-admitted into the party.

“Vice President Atiku Abubakar has been formally re-admitted into the PDP from his ward of origin, Jada II ward in Jada Local Government Area, Adamawa State. And we stand by it,” Yahaya told our reporter.

A member of the party’s National working Committee (NWC) that met last week told this newspaper in confidence that “no member of the NWC objected to the granting of waiver to the former vice president. What we did was to refer him to his state, like we did to many other party members, to start the process.”

Atiku’s media aide said that “Atiku was given special consideration because of the crisis within the party in Adamawa State. The NWC’s decision was not restricted to Atiku; rather the party only challenged state chapters to forward the waiver requests to the national headquarters.”

Sunday Trust learnt that Atiku had forwarded his waiver application to the Adamawa PDP on Wednesday and copied the national secretariat of the party on Wednesday, a day before the party NWC met.

The ward chairman told Sunday Trust yesterday that “it is true that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar is from this ward, and we had since registered him.” He added that Atiku “wrote to us indicating his interest to come back to the PDP. We summoned a meeting on the issue and after some days we replied him positively for his re -admittance.”

Alhaji Yahaya explained that they were directed to re-register Atiku after he visited the national headquarters of the party in Abuja and he was directed to return to his ward and register. “This directive was officially communicated to us through Senator Paul Wampana, the PDP North East Zonal Chairman to re-open the party membership registration exercise for the likes of Atiku and their followers,” he said.

“As the PDP ward chairman of Jada II ward in Jada Local Government Area, Adamawa State, the ward of origin of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, we received, processed and approved his application to register in the party at ward level and did formally register him and issue him a membership card, as a duly registered member of the PDP in the said ward. This, we did, in full compliance with the PDP constitution as we are entitled to do.

“We communicated this development to the national secretariat of the party through the party leaders in the state. To be specific, the party linkman in the state, Senator Jibril Aminu, has forwarded our letter to state North-East zone and to the national secretariat,” the ward chairman said.
