The President must hear this Dankwambo is contesting for GovernorThe President must hear this Dankwambo is contesting for Governor

It started like a rumour, but like wild fire, it has spread and is threatening to consume the polity. It is the story about the Accountant General of the Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Dankwanbo, s alleged gubernatorial bid, that he is contesting the position of the office of Governor in Gombe State.
When the rumour started filtering through, we ignored it but now we have reasons to believe that it is true because Dankwanbo has not only made up his mind to join the political foray, but completed all arrangements to do so, to the bewilderment of all of us who had prayed fervently that it should be a hoax.
Dankwanbo, as a bonafide citizen of Gombe State has every right to contest for, and get elected into any office of his choice, but there are contending issues. Firstly, he is the Accountant General of the Federation, impliedly; he is in charge of Nigeria’s finances. Secondly, he is basically a civil servant who has neither retired nor resigned his post, as it has not been reported that he has, and thirdly, it is understood that the President may not be too willing to release him.
Yet, his campaign has gone full blast, with offices being opened in every part of Gombe State, under the watchful eyes of a veteran civil servant, the Secretary to the Federal Government of Nigeria.
For all we know, Governor Danjuma Goje has promised our man, Alhaji Dahiru Baba Biri, the Hon. Commissioner for Local Government, the slot for governorship of the state. In fact, Biri, had confided in his core supporters that it was the Governor who even asked him to purchase the governorship form in the first place. His concern initially, was to aim for the Senate of which he had earlier attempted during the bye- election, and lost.
What was the more baffling, was the story that was also being peddled that the Governor had planned to present the Accountant General, just for the sake of presentation or a sort of endorsement, knowing fully well that he would not scale through. We also heard that the Accountant General himself was contemplating striking a deal with Hon. Biri to give him support for the governorship, while after the elections; his name would be recommended for the post of Minister of Finance.
But with the opening of offices, the purchase and distribution of houses, cars and other booties to party stalwarts, it appears that there is a real game plan by Danwanbo. So who is fooling who? If I may ask, because we do not want our man, the gentleman, Hon. Biri, to be the sacrificial lamb.
The question we want to pose to Mr. President, is whether he is aware that a civil servant working directly under him has jettisoned his job, from where he earns his salary, and is pursuing a political ambition without let or hindrance? Was it the President that gave him the permission to do so? And is this the way the well publicised crusade for transparent elections will be achieved? If others are quiet about this, we the supporters of Hon. Biri, believe that we have to voice it out.
It is time Mr. President calls the Accountant General of the Federation to order, otherwise, this will set a bad precedence, and may well undermine Mr. President’s noble objective of giving Nigeria, and Nigerians credible elections.
