Primaries: PDP NEC moves to empower NWC
The source said this was necessary because the final timetable and guidelines must reflect the provisions of the Electoral Act which is still being considered by members of the National Assembly.
According to the source, the party’s guidelines for the primary elections cannot be issued without recourse to the provisions of the Electoral Act.
The source also told Daily Trust that the meeting of the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT), which is expected to hold tomorrow (Wednesday) at the Presidential Villa, will consider the tentative timetable prepared by the NWC before presenting it to the NEC on Thursday.
However, there are unconfirmed reports to the effect that based on the tentative timetable, the party would hold its primary elections for governorship and State House of Assembly for January 8 and 9, respectively, while presidential primaries will be conducted in three days between January 11and 13 across the 36 states of the federation and the FCT.
Delegates’ ratification convention where the presidential candidate will be unveiled is expected to hold in Abuja on January 15 to beat the guidelines prepared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
